In the event that a patient needs urgent rescue care, they have the option to be transferred to the Level 1 Trauma Center and Thrombectomy-Capable Stroke Center at Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital.

The transfer option is available to individuals currently seeing a Penn Medicine Lancaster General Health provider and those receiving care outside of the health system.

The hospital provides the following heart and neuro rescue services:

Heart rescue
  • Aortic rescue
  • Cardiogenic shock rescue (including ECMO support)
  • Heart rescue (STEMI)
  • PERT rescue - Rapid, comprehensive and advanced care to patients with acute pulmonary embolism
Neuro rescue
  • Neurocritical care rescue
  • Neurosurgery rescue
  • Stroke rescue
Penn Medicine also offers specialized care at their various other hospital locations and patients can be transferred to these facilities for treatment if needed. Individuals being transferred to the hospital can expect a warm and compassionate greeting upon their arrival at the emergency department before being triaged to their provider team for a coordinated care experience.
